Posse Program

Program that Works

Summary

Provides full four-year scholarships to students who would be overlooked for funding by many traditional programs. During college, the program groups students together in cohorts of 10 to form multicultural, supportive “Posses” lead by a mentor, to provide the necessary social and academic environment for college success. Currently there are two streams of Posse students: the Liberal Arts Posse and the newer Science Posse introduced in 2008.

Target Population

College applicants with leadership and problem solving skills.

Goal(s)

To identify qualified high school students in need of scholarship with measurements other than standardized tests, and give them the support they need for college completion.

Program Highlights

  • The Posse selection process includes a series of personal and group interviews.
  • Students attend college success workshops during the senior year of high school. For the Science Posse, students also attend a two-week intensive science “boot camp”.
  • Posse has active partnerships with corporations to provide internships and career services to students.
